Snowshoe — Snowshoe Mountain Resort (www.snowshoemtn.com), which bills itself as the number one ski area in the Southeast, today announced it will officially open for the 2015-16 winter ski and snowboard season at 9 am on Friday, December 11.
While warmer than usual temperatures have lasted into early December, Snowshoe officials are hoping for colder weather next week. In anticipation of opening, Snowshoe mountain operations will continue making snow at every opportunity. The resort invested in 75 new state-of-the-art snow guns by Snow Logic which are more energy-efficient and productive, officials said.
“We’re looking forward to the cold weather to push in next week and add natural snow to what we’ve already been able make with our new snowmaking equipment,” stated David Dekema, Vice President of marketing.
Snowshoe is committed to providing the best conditions in the area, Dekema said. Therefore the mountain operations team has determined they will initially concentrate on opening terrain where they can provide the best snow. If temperatures continue to drop the resort will begin to make additional snow and open more trails.
“We’re excited to open the mountain for the season and are looking forward to providing a great winter experience in time for the holidays,” Dekema said.
Resort officials will monitor upcoming temperature and weather patterns prior to determining total terrain open at the start. Eager skiers and riders are encouraged to seek regular updates at the Resort’s webpage and on its Facebook page.
Lift hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with night skiing from 4 to 9 p.m. To contact the resort by phone, call 877-441-4386.
