GOODY, KY — A turnout of more than 30 friends and relatives of Dawson Isom met Thursday, December 17, at the Steak House for an organizational meeting.
The group agreed that the “Tribute to Dawson” event will be begin at 1 p.m., Saturday, January 23, 2016. It will be held at the Belfry Volunteer Fire Department. Organizers said the event will last for about two hours.
Various members of the organization group agreed to work on arrangements for the event. It is the committee’s intent to honor the life and accomplishments of 18-year-old Isom, who was beaten May 30, 2015 in Williamson. Because of the beating, Isom remains comatose in a Kentucky nursing facility.
Organizers emphasized that the tribute is not planned for any political or personal gain purposes. “It is simply to show the world how much people love Dawson,” said one organizer.
Poster photos of Isom playing basketball at Belfry High were among the items shown to the group as an indication of the type of material that will be used in the tribute.
It was agreed that event organizers will contact all area ministers in the Mingo and Pike County area and invite them to attend. Isom’s pastor has agreed to speak on that day.
The group said light finger food and refreshments will be served. Regular updates will be posted in the Corridor Chronicle.
