LOGAN– The family of State Senate candidate Richard Ojeda is reporting he was brutally attacked and is receiving medical treatment. Posts on social media by Angelina Oliver, who identifies herself as Ojeda’s sister, say the candidate was attacked in Logan County Sunday by Jonathan Porter. A photograph of Ojeda shows him wearing a neck brace with bruises and lacerations on his face.
“He was jumped, blind sided and beaten with brass knuckles,” Oliver’s Facebook post says. “Then Jonathan Porter tried to run over him with his truck,” she continues.
The post goes on to urge voters to cast ballots for Ojeda and to punish at the ballot box what is identified as “Art Kirkendoll and his thugs.” Kirkendoll is the incumbent Senator who Ojeda is campaigning against.
Kirkendoll in a telephone interview, “I certainly hope the good people of Logan County will know I would never have anything to do with something like this. I am concerned about Mr. Ojeda’s health and I ask my friends and supporters to remember him in their prayers. I would be an idiot to have had anything to do with this.”
A source said charges are pending against Porter.
