CHARLESTON — The salary for West Virginia’s new Director of the Office of Administrative Hearings is $80,000, according to Brent Walker, spokesman for the Department of Transportation.
Maynard’s salary as Mingo County Prosecutor, which she resigned two weeks ago, was $103,264, according to the Mingo Finance Office. Prosecutor salaries are set by statute.
Maynard, whose controversial term as Mingo Assessor was scheduled to end in December, lost to new Prosecutor Duke Jewell in May. She apparently resigned early to accept the appointment by Governor Earl Ray Tomblin.
Mired in controversy involving her membership in the former political faction, Team Mingo, Maynard never escaped the shadow of the corruption of her former law partner, ex-Circuit Judge Michael Thornsbury. Critics said she refused to prosecute Team Mingo members who were accused of violating laws by federal authorities.
Maynard also failed to prosecute two individuals accused of beating an 18-year-old on a Willliamson street in May 2015.
Tomblin has not offered the rationale for her appointment.
