Hello –
It’s been a busy week here in the Senate.
We’ve continued debating and confirming the president’s cabinet nominees.
And on Tuesday night, President Trump announced his pick for the Supreme Court.
Judge Neil Gorsuch, who I had the opportunity to meet, is a well-respected and seasoned Judge with unparalleled qualifications and experience.
He has a strong record of putting the rule of law first and carefully considering the Constitution.
West Virginians and Americans had an opportunity to weigh in on the direction of the Supreme Court and now the Senate should fairly and thoroughly consider Judge Gorsuch.

On Wednesday, I hosted a Senate Broadband Caucus discussion with members of the House and the tech community.
We discussed broadband infrastructure priorities for 2017.
Improving connectivity in West Virginia remains one of my top priorities and I look forward to working with newly appointed FCC Chairman Pai, who joined me in West Virginia last year to view our broadband challenges firsthand.
Chairman Pai has been an excellent partner in the effort to improve broadband and I’m optimistic that the new administration will prioritize deployment of this critical resource.

This week I also joined Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell from our neighboring state of Kentucky in introducing a measure to overturn one of President Obama’s final anti-coal rules.
The Stream Protection Rule, which was put into effect one day before President Obama left office, is the result of a flawed regulatory process and would cost even more coal jobs in West Virginia.
I was glad that this resolution passed the Senate and I will continue fighting to overturn harmful, misguided regulations.
