Madison – A 19-year-old has been jailed following the death of another teenager in a weekend accident at the former Hobet Mining property near Danville.
Boone County sheriff’s deputies said Dylan Levi Price, 19, of Julian has been charged with DUI causing death. He is being held at the South Western Regional Jail on $100,000 bond.
Jonathan “Tater” Lester, 17, was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by Price over the Memorial Day weekend. Lester was killed in an accident at the old mine site.
Price was a student at Scott High School in Madison. Officers reported that Price had been charged with a DUI in 2017. Those charges are still pending.
A media outlet reported that deputies said a candlelight vigil and slide show in memory of Lester would be held Tuesday evening around 7:30 p.m. There was no immediate confirmation of where the event would be held.
The former mine property has been designated for economic development efforts in Southern West Virginia and is now referred to as the Rock Creek Industrial Park.
