Our Opinion

We have made endorsements in most races of interest next Tuesday. The following represents the remaining races where we make recommendations.

In the State Senate, we recommend Democrat Josh Gary in District Two;  Republicans Donna Boley and Amy Grady in Three and Four, respectively; Republican Chad Shaffer in Five; Republican Rupie Phillips in Seven.

Democrats Glenn Jeffries in Eight, Denise Campbell in 11, and Doug Facemire in 12; Republicans Rebecca Polis in 13, Craig Blair in 15, Patricia Rucker in 16 and Eric Nelson in 17.

In the House of Delegates, we stand by our earlier endorsements and add the following.

In District 13, we support the re-election of Republican Joshua Higginbotham and Democrat Scott Brewer. We support Republican Johnnie Wamsley in 14; Republican Geoff Foster in 15; Republicans Mark Bates and Daniel Linville and Democrat Sean Hornbuckle in 16.

Democrat Chad Lovejoy and Republican Matt Rohrbach in 17; Republican Evan Worrell in 18; Republican Derrick Evans in 19; Republican Matthew Deskins in 20; Democrat Phyllis White in 21; Democrat Jeff Eldridge and Republican Zack Maynard in 22; Democrat Rodney Miller in 23; Republican Jordan Bridges in 24.

Republicans Joe Ellington, Marty Gearheart and Doug Smith in 27; Republican Brandon Steele in 29; Democrat Margaret Staggers in 32; Republican Speaker Roger Hanshaw in 33; Republicans Moore Capito and Larry Pack and Democrat Doug Skaff in 35; Democrat Larry Rowe and Republican Chris Walters in 36.

Republican Diana Graves in 38; Republican Dana Ferrell in 39; Democrat Robert Shultz in 46; Republican Ben Queen in 48; Republican Amy Summers in 49; Republican Cindy Frich in 51; Republican Terri Sypolt in 52; Mountain Party Robert Smith in 59.

Democrat Sammi Brown in 65; and Democrat John Doyle in District 67.

In Mingo County, we endorse Republican Ernest Sammons for Sheriff; Democrat Greg “Hootie” Smith for another term as a county commissioner; and Democrat Yogi Croaff for county clerk.

In Cabell, we recommend the re-election of Republican County Commissioner Nancy Cartmill; and Democrat Sheriff Chuck Zerkle.

Kanawha Countians should re-elect Democrat Sheriff Mike Rutherford and give Democrat Mark Hunt a six-year term on the County Commission.
